Ylva Carlgren (b. 1984) is a Swedish artist. She graduated from Valand Academy 2012. She works with watercolour in an experimental and systematic manner. In particular, she uses a layered glazing technique which effectively eliminates any trace of brush strokes resulting in her work having a uniformly flawless finish. Carlgren’s paintings are fastidiously exact, appearing practically photorealistic due to the artist’s attention to detail and ability to portray naturalistic light and shadow.
NUG, or Magnus Gustafsson (b. 1972), is a Swedish artist. He stems from the graffiti scene, the presence of which is still a constant in his art. He works primarily with painting, other mediums of choice include video and audio. He received his MFA from Konstfack University College of Art and Design in 2008. NUG’s canvasses bear witness to his established background in graffiti culture. Utilising tools and techniques generally reserved for street artists he creates sprawling pieces that somehow manage to appear to be in constantmotion while still projecting an air of composed stillness.
